Google invests over $200m in Nigeria, others Kindly share this story:

Google has spent well above $200m in Nigeria and across Africa in the last one year.

The Director of Google Cloud Africa, Niral Patel, disclosed this to journalists during a round table online conversation after Google for Africa event on Wednesday.

During the 2021’s Google for Africa, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Sundar Pichai, disclosed a $1bn investment commitment to the continent across five years.

While speaking to journalists, Patel, who stated he couldn’t disclose the exact amount the company had invested, said Google had invested well over 20 per cent of its commitment on the continent.

At this year’s event, the firm revealed that its subsea cable, Equiano, would launch before the end of 2022.

Bride killed moments after her wedding by drunk driver

A newly wedded bride, Samantha Miller, was killed by a drunk driver who slammed into the newlywed’s golf cart on a South Carolina beach, authorities disclosed on Monday. According to the Charleston County coroner’s office, the 34-year-old who had just gotten married hours earlier died in the wreck which left three others in the golf cart injured, including the groom, who is hospitalised and in critical condition. The Guardian reported that the groom’s mother has created a GoFundMe page to pay for her daughter-in-law’s funeral and her son’s medical bills. It included a photo of the newlyweds running under sparklers just before the crash, which caused the golf cart to roll over several times. Data retrieved from the suspect, Jamie Lee Komoroski’s rental car indicated she was driving 65 mph (105 km/h), and only briefly hit the brakes before she struck the golf cart around 10 pm Friday on Folly Beach, investigators said.
